The Menahkwesk Zine Archive (MZA) aims to be a space run by a collective of zine readers, zine makers and other enthusiasts who strive to make zines accessible for the local community.
Zines have been, and continue to be, an important and open medium of expression. A D.I.Y. ethos, decentralized distribution and no barriers to entry make them extremely versatile and hard to censor. This has led to zines being a staple for radical movements, political education, art and punk subcultures, queer and BIPOC communities, and other ‘deviant’ streams of society. We believe they should be cherished, protected, and promoted.
We are currently housed at Haven Music Hall (201 Union St.). You will find a shelf on the left as you come in. All zines are there are free to take! We also distribute zines at various community events, please feel free to reach out if you’d like us to bring zines to an event.
MZA is still a fledgling collective. In the future, we hope to have a physical and digital space for browsing and sharing our collection. We also hope to offer skill share sessions, zine making workshops and other communal spaces for expression!
